Sebastian Cotofana, MD, PhD., PhD, is recognized globally as a leading facial anatomist in the field of facial aesthetics. He a Clinical Professor of Plastic Surgery at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine and a member of the Department of Dermatology at Erasmus University Medical Center. He is also the CEO and founder of Cotofana Anatomy, a company dedicated to advancing anatomic education globally.

After studying medicine in Munich, Germany and conducting anatomic research as a senior post doc at the Institute of Anatomy, Paracelsus Medical University, Salzburg, Austria, he obtained dual Ph.D. degrees in Medical Sciences and Anatomy. He began his residency in trauma surgery in 2010 at Altoetting, Germany, and later served as an Associate Professor of Anatomy at Ross University in Dominica. In 2017, he joined Albany Medical College in New York as an Associate Professor of Anatomy, and in 2023, he was appointed Full Professor of Anatomy at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota.

He has published over 300 peer-reviewed articles, book chapters, and online communications and He holds four honorary professorships, including at Queen Mary University in London, Pirogov University in Moscow, the Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Guangdong Second Provincial General Hospital in China, and the University of Medical Sciences in San José, Costa Rica. In addition, he holds two visiting professorships at Comenius University in Bratislava, Slovakia and at the University of Belgrade in Serbia.
